The term aromatherapy refers to the ability of pure essential oils to affect human beings on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Essential oils have been enjoyed for these effects for thousands of years and in many different ways. When used in perfumes and colognes, they can help you to feel prettier, sexier, or more confident. As incense, certain fragrances such as frankincense have been used as an aid to meditation and prayer since biblical times. Recent studies in Japan show scents piped into the workplace can increase the concentration, accuracy and alertness of the workers. Used in body care products essential oils can aid in alleviating a variety of skin problems.
Essential oils
Essential oils are aromatic substances derived from plants, usually by steam or water distillation. Essential oils are volatile, which means they evaporate when in contact with air. Absolutes are similar to essential oils in that they are aromatic and volatile. They are produced through a dual extraction process utilizing a chemical solvent and alcohol. Absolutes are produced from delicate plant materials with very low essential oil content, such as jasmine and rose flowers. Vegetable oil is often used to dilute essential oils to act as a carrier in massage oils and other body products
